In the summer of 2003, the Lookingglass Theatre Company opened its new home in the Water Tower Water Works building on Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago. Collaborating with Schuler Shook Theatre Planners, Pepper Construction and Morris Architects, Sightline Commercial Solutions helped the nationally recognized theater company construct its modern, state-of-the-art facility by engineering seating equipment for its main floor and balcony. On the main level, a seating riser that can be configured in multiple ways for a variety of performances was installed, while the balcony – which can also be manipulated into various arrangements – was intentionally designed to be removable. Care was taken in choosing finishes that blended with the existing industrial environment, so Sightline Commercial Solutions’ SC90® single sided platforms and adjustable height legs, along with perforated metal guardrail, were custom powder-coated to resemble natural rust and age. With two levels of fully reconfigurable seating to provide maximum flexibility for all performance types, Lookingglass Theatre can accommodate the needs of their seemingly limitless adventures in performance arts.
